What to know
- Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said during a press conference at the Pentagon this morning that the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is “not over,” after a recent exchange of fire between the two countries in the Strait of Hormuz. The United Arab Emirates said yesterday that Iranian attacks set its Fujairah oil refinery on fire.
- Despite escalating tensions, President Donald Trump did not clarify yesterday whether he believes the U.S.-Iran ceasefire has ended. He did, however, threaten to blow Iran “off the face of the Earth” if it attacks U.S. forces as they guide allied vessels through the strait. Iran’s top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, accused the U.S. of violating the ceasefire, saying this morning that a continuation of the current situation is “unbearable.”
- U.S. Central Command confirmed yesterday that the U.S. had intercepted missiles targeting U.S. Navy and commercial vessels. CENTCOM also confirmed that U.S. helicopters sank six small Iranian boats that officials said were targeting civilian vessels under American protection.
