- President Donald Trump announced today on his social media site that the U.S. had had “productive” talks with Iranian diplomats and will pause strikes on Iranian power plants for five days during “ongoing discussions.” According to the Associated Press, the semiofficial Iranian state news agency Tasnim said an Iranian senior official told the agency there had been no talks and that the U.S. had retreated over pressure on financial markets.
- Trump told reporters this morning that Iran has agreed to “never” have a nuclear weapon and that there will be a regime change in the country.
- At least 2,600 people have died in the war since the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on Iran about a month ago. More than half of those deaths, over 1,500, have occurred in Iran, according to reporting from a state-run broadcaster over the weekend, according to AP.
