What to know
- Iran has sent mixed signals on the possibility of fresh talks with the United States as its war with the U.S. and Israel enters its eighth week. The country has blasted the U.S. seizure of an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman on Sunday, but Pakistani officials have said Iran has shown a willingness for another meeting.
- Meanwhile, President Donald Trump on Sunday announced on Truth Social, “My Representatives are going to Islamabad, Pakistan — They will be there tomorrow evening, for Negotiations.” He said special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner will travel to Pakistan tonight. Vice President JD Vance will lead the delegation, two White House officials told MS NOW.
- Oil prices jumped to $95 a barrel at market open this morning. Prices are on the rise again after the U.S. seized an Iranian cargo ship, and the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. Markets opened flat, with the S&P 500 dropping 0.2% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipping less than 0.05%.
