What to know
- The Iranian foreign minister said this morning that the Strait of Hormuz is open for passage in line with the 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, which went into effect yesterday. President Donald Trump followed the announcement with a post on Truth Social saying the U.S. blockade of Iran’s key ports remains in effect.
- World leaders, headed by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, are gathering today in Paris for an international summit on reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
- Trump told reporters yesterday that the next round of peace negotiations between the U.S. and Iran will “probably” take place over the weekend. He said he wasn’t sure an extension of the two-week pause in fighting would be necessary.
