What to know
- A Senate confirmation hearing for Sen. Markwayne Mullin, President Donald Trump’s pick to replace Kristi Noem as Homeland Security secretary, is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. ET. The Oklahoma Republican is expected to face tough questions about his approach to carrying out the president’s mass deportation agenda.
- Elsewhere on Capitol Hill, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is scheduled to testify at 10 a.m. ET during the Senate Intelligence Committee’s annual hearing on global threats to the United States. FBI Director Kash Patel and CIA Director John Ratcliffe are set to testify alongside her.
- Once vocally anti-war, Gabbard broke her silence on the Iran war, now in its 19th day, in a social media post yesterday in which she offered an explanation — but did not endorse — the U.S.-Israel military campaign. Earlier in the day, Joe Kent, a top U.S. counterterrorism official and close aide to Gabbard, resigned in protest of the war.
