What to know
- Voters today will choose the winners of the Democratic and Republican primaries in six states: Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Oregon and Pennsylvania. The victors will advance to the high-stakes general elections in November, which could flip control of Congress.
- In Georgia, two congressional stalwarts of President Donald Trump and the son of a legendary college football coach are top contenders in the Republican Senate primary. Each hopes to unseat Democratic Sen. John Ossoff in November.
- In Kentucky, each party fields candidates to replace retiring GOP Sen. Mitch McConnell. In the state’s 4th Congressional District, Republican Rep. Thomas Massie, who has broken with the president on some issues, is battling a Trump-endorsed challenger.
- And in Pennsylvania, Democrats see a chance to gain congressional seats while they choose which candidates to promote to the November elections.
