Former FBI Director James Comey has been subpoenaed in a “grand conspiracy” investigation into former intelligence and law enforcement officials who were part of President Donald Trump’s prosecution, Axios reported Thursday, citing two sources with knowledge of the situation.
The subpoena is related to Comey’s alleged involvement in a 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) on Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election to help Trump, according to Axios’ sources.
Jason Reding Quiñones, the Trump-appointed U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida, has been investigating a number of people Trump considers his political foes. Former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page are among those who have been subpoenaed in the investigation.
The investigation is predicated on the baseless conspiracy theory that Trump was singularly targeted by top government officials.
