An Air Canada plane has collided with a Port Authority Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting vehicle upon landing on Runway 4 of the international airport late Sunday night.
The jet reportedly crashed into the emergency vehicle after it had already landed, as the vehicle crossed the runway to respond to a separate incident, according to a high-ranking Department of Transportation official. The rescue vehicle had received clearance from the control center to cross the runway, though was quickly asked to stop.
About a dozen emergency vehicles have been deployed in response to the collision, though no reports have been made about the specific number of passengers injured.
A preliminary passenger list for the aircraft, operated by Air Canada’s regional partner Jazz, indicates the plane was carrying 72 passengers and 4 crew members, according to a statement from Jazz Aviation. The flight was en route to LaGuardia from Montreal.
