President Donald Trump’s name is in the process of being removed from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., after a federal judge on Friday denied a last-minute bid by the center’s board to delay removal.

Workers on Friday erected scaffolding to begin the process of removing Trump’s name, although work did not begin until early Saturday morning. Tarps covering the scaffolding made it hard to see whether the name had been fully removed overnight.

The Kennedy Center said in a memo to employees earlier this month that Trump’s name must be removed by Friday in accordance with U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper’s May order blocking the center’s renaming. But the Kennedy Center asked a judge to extend the deadline until noon Eastern Time on Saturday because of thunderstorms, causing a delay.
Some demonstrators outside the Kennedy Center could be heard chanting “take it down” on Friday.
