Far-right conspiracy theorist Mike Lindell’s appearance at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference cannot be going the way he imagined.
On Thursday, Lindell went viral for a video depicting him apparently being served legal papers while conducting an interview from CPAC with a right-wing news outlet.
Also on Thursday, the beleaguered Trump sycophant lost his bid to overturn a defamation verdict over false claims he made about a former Dominion Voting Systems employee related to the 2020 election, as my colleague Jordan Rubin explained.
Things weren’t looking up on Friday when Lindell took the stage at the conference as part of a candidate forum that also included far-right extremist Texas congressional candidate Brandon Herrera.
Lindell made no reference to the latest of his many legal troubles, instead peddling baseless election conspiracy theories about purported fraud and pleading with CPAC to give his floundering Minnesota gubernatorial bid some attention.
“Here’s what’s going on in Minnesota right now: You wouldn’t even know I’m running. The media there, they understand me. I use them to attack. They’re not even attacking me. So I need CPAC once again, I need you guys to get the word out.” It sounds like the candidate is upset his trolling hasn’t garnered the attention he’s gotten previously. Lindell is currently running in a crowded gubernatorial primary. The Minnesota Republican Party, which nominated Lindell ally Royce White as its Senate nominee in 2024, will vote to endorse an official candidate at its convention in May. Whoever secures the nomination is likely to face an uphill climb. Last month, an Emerson College poll showed Democratic front-runner Sen. Amy Klobuchar with a commanding lead in a hypothetical race between herself and Republican candidate Lisa Demuth, 51% to 38%, with 11% undecided. In a one-on-one matchup against Lindell, the poll showed Klobuchar ahead 53% to 31%, with 16% undecided.
