Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
* Vice President Kamala Harris was in Arizona on Friday, visiting the U.S.-Mexico border, and sketching out her plans on border security measures she’d pursue if elected.
* In North Carolina, the latest CNN poll found Harris and Donald Trump tied, with each garnering 48% support, though the same poll found scandal-plagued Lt. Gov. * In Pennsylvania, the latest Fox News poll found the Democratic vice president narrowly leading the former Republican president, 50% to 48%.(Click the link for information on the survey’s methodology and margin of error.)
* The latest batch of New York Times/Siena College polls found Harris with very narrow advantages in Wisconsin and Michigan, but a much larger advantage in Nebraska’s Omaha-area district. * The Harris campaign unveiled a new ad on Saturday, trolling Trump for dodging another presidential debate. The commercial aired during a closely watched football game featuring the University of Georgia and the University of Alabama. (Disclosure: The ad includes a reference to a MaddowBlog post.)
* Politico reported late last week that the Democratic National Committee will send money “to every state Democratic party in the country for the first time in its history to bolster down-ballot races in the final sprint toward November.”
* NBC News reported that the Justice Department filed a lawsuit against Alabama on Friday, “arguing that an effort to remove voters from state rolls was taking place too close to the Nov. 5 general election in violation of federal law.”
* And in Virginia, Republican congressional hopeful Derrick Anderson has apparently been promoting images and footage of himself with a woman and her three children, though the woman and the kids are not his family. Rather, they’re the family of one of Anderson’s longtime friends.
