Dyson just launched a new hair dryer — and it’s the brand’s smallest and most lightweight model yet

Big news: Dyson just released an upgraded version of its popular Supersonic hair dryer. The new blow dryer, the Dyson Supersonic r, is the brand’s most expensive hair tool to date and originally designed for professionals because of its small size and 12.5-foot long cable. Now, Dyson’s making it available to the public for the first time.

Like other hair dryers in its lineup, the Supersonic r is designed to minimize hair damage and quickly dry it via multiple attachments. At $569.99, it’s the brand’s most expensive hair tool to date, though it’s also 30% smaller and 20% lighter than previous models and has an “r” shape, which lends itself toward quickly drying hair, according to Dyson.

The dryer has a new motor that’s different from other Dyson appliances, like the Airwrap, that produces a high-pressure airflow in order to maximize dry times, according to the brand. It also has a heater with foils built into the curve of the machine to streamline that airflow and heat the appliance evenly, according to Dyson. Plus, its attachments have RDIF (Radio Frequency Identification) sensors that adjust the motor and heat settings to ensure the airflow and temperature are optimized for each attachment.

Like Dyson’s other hot tools, it comes with five attachments — a diffuser (to define curls and reduce frizz), a wide-tooth comb (to detangle and lengthen hair), a flyaway attachment (to hide flyaways), an air attachment (to give strong airflow for fast drying) and a pro concentrator (to focus air on a precise area).
