Meet the Creator of "My Generation"

David Rivera is a documentary director and producer whose credits include MSNBC, HBO, CNN, CBS, NBC, PBS, BET, Quibi, NatGeo and The Oprah Winfrey Show. He is a graduate of the School of Journalism and the University of Texas at Austin. Upon graduation, he worked as a News Associate at NBC News in NewYork before spending three years as an Associate Producer for Dateline NBC based in Chicago. For ten years, David worked at The Oprah Winfrey Show as a Senior Field Producer, where he produced interviews with luminaries including Whitney Houston, Bono, Cher, Tina Turner, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson, Steven Tyler, Sarah Palin, J.K. Rowling, Lisa Marie Presley and John Travolta. David then moved to pursue his lifelong passion of documentary production, beginning as a producer for The Seventies and The Eighties for CNN. With The Nineties, he became the Show Runner and Co-Executive Producer of the series, a role he continued in through The 2000s and 1968: The Year That Changed America. He also spearheaded The Movies, a six-part, twelve-hour history of motion pictures on CNN, for which he interviewed Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Julia Roberts, Robert DeNiro, Robert Redford, Alec Baldwin, Morgan Freeman, Holly Hunter, Kevin Kline, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Billy Crystal, Paul Thomas Anderson, Tim Burton, Cameron Crowe, John Singleton, Ron Howard, Baz Luhrmann, Rob Reiner, Peter Bogdanovich, Michael Mann and Ridley Scott. In recent years, David has served as Executive Producer of several series, including Land of the Giants: The Titans of Tech for CNN, Cari and Jemele (Won’t) Stick To Sports for Vice, and Slugfest for Quibi. His directorial debut, the documentary feature Unashamed: Lecrae and the 116 Clique, will be released in 2025, as will his upcoming documentary series for The History Channel, Kevin Costner’s The West. Developing and serving as the Executive Producer for My Generation has been a highlight of David’s career. As a proud member of Generation X, being able to work with some of his boyhood idols, including Ethan Hawke, Michael Stipe and Tony Hawk, has been a dream come true.
