Matt is an Emmy-nominated documentary director known for his character-driven documentaries. His work spans a wide range of subjects, from the world’s first Black scuba diver to an innocent man on death row, and includes collaborations with major talents such as TLC, Anthony Mackie, and Lewis Hamilton. His films have won awards, screened at over 50 major festivals, and reached millions of viewers worldwide.

His feature documentary Over the Wall and Netflix short Little Miss Sumo have been used globally as educational tools and cited in legislative discussions. In 2022, his Hulu film To Live and Die in Alabama earned him a Documentary Emmy nomination. His feature TLC Forever aired to millions on A&E and is now streaming on Netflix.

Matt then spent two years filming closely with Lewis Hamilton for an upcoming Apple feature, due for release next summer. His latest TV episode, Shark Beach with Anthony Mackie, premiered on National Geographic, is now available on Disney+, and was recently nominated for two Daytime Emmys. He has just wrapped directing Andrew Young: The Dirty Work for MSNBC, a major documentary on the civil rights icon and former U.N. Ambassador, set to broadcast on MLK Day 2026.
