In a historic moment, Pope Leo XIV made his first public appearance from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica after being selected as the successor to Pope Francis. The 133 cardinals elected Cardinal Robert Prevost, the first American to be Catholic leader, in the fourth ballot of the conclave.
