* In Florida: “Ryan Wesley Routh has been charged with two federal counts: possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. During his initial court appearance, he revealed he has a 25-year-old son. When asked about his earnings, he told the judge he has no money to his name and owns two trucks in Hawaii worth about $1,000 each. He appeared calm and nonchalant in court as he responded to the judge’s questions.”

* In related news: “President Joe Biden on Monday condemned the potential assassination attempt against former president Donald Trump, saying there is ‘no place for political violence in America.’ ... ‘In America, we resolve our differences peacefully, at the ballot box, not at the end of a gun,’ Biden said while speaking at a conference in Philadelphia to honor historically Black colleges and universities.”

* It continues: “Two Springfield City School District elementary schools were evacuated Monday due to unspecified threats and information received from local police, a district spokesperson said in a statement.”

* Wall Street: “The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at another all-time high after recouping its losses from early September. The S&P 500 rose close to its own record, but was held back by losses in Big Tech companies like Apple and Nvidia.”

* In Iraq: “One of the largest counterterrorism operations against the Islamic State in Iraq in recent years killed four top insurgent leaders last month, the U.S. military said on Friday, dealing the group a major blow at a time when its attacks in Iraq and Syria are on the rise.”

* In Georgia: “A special prosecutor announced Friday that Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones will not be charged over efforts to overturn Donald Trump’s electoral defeat in the 2020 presidential election. Peter Skandalakis, who leads the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia, a judicial agency that assists prosecutors across the state, said in a statement that he considered the matter closed.”

* It sounds like good news for Wilson in South Carolina: “Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., announced in a video posted on X today that he has recovered after being hospitalized following a collapse last Tuesday.”

* This is a difficult read, but it’s important and worth your time: “At least two women in Georgia died after they couldn’t access legal abortions and timely medical care in their state, ProPublica has found. This is one of their stories.”

See you tomorrow.
