Today’s edition of quick hits.

* The latest on tariffs: “The U.S. and Mexico reached an agreement Monday to delay a 25% tariff on all Mexican imports for one month, after Mexico agreed to ramp up security at its border — averting, at least for now, a move that could have driven up prices for U.S. consumers and stalled both countries’ economies.”

* On a related, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau published an item to social media that said he had “a good call” with Donald Trump. He concluded, “Proposed tariffs will be paused for at least 30 days while we work together.”

* The crisis at USAID is real: “Employees of the United States Agency for International Development based out of the nation’s capital were ordered overnight not to come into the office Monday and to work from home.”

* A closely watched case: “A federal judge in Washington said Monday she will probably extend a temporary ban against President Donald Trump’s sweeping pause on trillions of dollars in federal spending while she weighs a lawsuit challenging its legality, citing the otherwise ‘catastrophic’ impact on everything from Pell student grants to small business aid.”

* Speaking of notable legal developments: “Several opening moves of Donald Trump’s latest round in the White House have raised the question: Is that legal? And perhaps more importantly: If not, what is anyone doing about it? When it comes to the firings of Justice Department employees for having worked on Trump and Jan. 6 cases, lawyers representing affected workers wrote to the DOJ threatening legal action.”

* In California: “More than three weeks after the devastating Eaton and Palisades fires broke out in Southern California, state officials on Friday evening said that firefighters had fully contained both fires, meaning that the perimeters of the fires were completely under control.”

* I wonder how many more reports like these we’ll be seeing in the near future: “At least four cases of measles, including two involving school-aged children, have been reported in Texas in less than two weeks, putting state health agencies on alert. For some communities, this is the first case of measles in more than 20 years.”

* The White House has its priorities: “Federal workers have been instructed to remove any reference to their identifying pronouns from their email signatures and other forms, as agency and department leaders work to follow President Trump’s executive order to scrub all references to gender ideology in official government materials by 5 p.m. Friday.”

* Eric Reinhart submitted a column critical of RFK Jr. to The Los Angeles Times, which published a heavily edited version that bore little resemblance to what he submitted. So, The New Republic published the real thing.

See you tomorrow.
