Today’s edition of quick hits.
* The latest on the most recent deadly school shooting: “Two children are dead, ages 8 and 10, after a gunman opened fire at the Annunciation Catholic School during a morning Mass on the south side of Minneapolis, authorities said. Seventeen others, including 14 children, were injured in the mass shooting, police said.”
* On a related note: “Multiple senior law enforcement officials briefed on the matter say federal law enforcement has identified the shooter as Robin Westman. The suspect, who was 23, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.”
* This administration sure does like to take over things: “The Trump administration is planning to take over the management of D.C.’s Union Station, the travel hub for Amtrak and the city’s metro lines, the Transportation Department announced Wednesday morning. The announcement from Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy comes just over a year after Amtrak took over management and operations of the station.”
* The latest on Covid shots: “The Food and Drug Administration approved the next round of Covid shots for the fall — but only for a smaller, high-risk group of people, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said Wednesday. The updated Covid shots are approved for adults 65 and older as well as for kids and adults with at least one medical condition that puts them at risk of severe illness.”
* Tariff news: “President Donald Trump’s promised 50% tariffs on India took effect on Wednesday, as the U.S. risks blowing up a relationship considered crucial in its effort to counter the rise of China.”
* The White House apparently hasn’t given up on its Greenland ambitions: “Denmark’s foreign minister had the top U.S. diplomat in the country summoned for talks after the main national broadcaster reported Wednesday that at least three people with connections to President Donald Trump have been carrying out covert influence operations in Greenland.”
* The administration picks yet another fight with California: “The U.S. Justice Department on Wednesday said it had opened an investigation into employment practices at California’s Environmental Protection Agency. The investigation is aimed at determining whether the agency ‘may be engaged in employment practices that discriminate based on race, sex, color, or national origin,’ the department said in a statement.”
