The Tufts University student that ICE grabbed off the street was denied bond in her immigration case
Immigration authorities arrested Öztürk in Somerville, Massachusetts, on March 25. She co-wrote an opinion essay in March 2024 in the student newspaper criticizing the school’s response to demands that it “acknowledge the Palestinian genocide” and “divest from companies with direct or indirect ties to Israel.”
Last month, Ozturk detailed the “inhumane” and “unsafe” conditions at the Louisiana ICE facility she is being held in, writing that she had limited access to food, she had to wait hours for toilet paper and that she is not getting proper treatment for her asthma.April 17, 2025
