* After an apparent would-be assassin was taken into custody on Sunday, Donald Trump’s political operation immediately got to work sending out fundraising appeals. A day later, those fundraising efforts continued.

* The latest national Morning Consult poll found Kamala Harris leading Trump, 51% to 45%, while the latest national Monmouth University poll found the Democratic nominee ahead by a similar margin. (Click the links for information on the surveys’ methodologies and margins of error.)

* In Pennsylvania, generally seen as one of the most important of the 2024 battleground states, the latest USA Today/Suffolk University poll found Harris narrowly leading the Republican nominee, 49% to 46%. (Click the link for information on the survey’s methodologies and margins of error.)

* Speaking of the Keystone State, voters in Philadelphia are poised to fill two vacant state House seats in special elections, though in both instances, Democratic candidates are running unopposed.

* The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee this week announced a $25 million investment in programs to directly contact voters across 10 states.

* In New Hampshire’s gubernatorial race, the latest poll from the Saint Anselm College Survey Center found former Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte with a small lead over former Democratic Mayor Joyce Craig, 46% to 43%. (Click the link for information on the survey’s methodologies and margins of error.)

* Speaking of the Granite State, the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire apparently thought it’d be a good idea to celebrate the prospect of political violence targeting Harris.

* It’s National Voter Registration Day.

* Four years ago, Scientific American, which began publishing way back in 1845, did something it had never done before: It endorsed a presidential candidate. At the time, the magazine backed Joe Biden. This year, for only the second time in the magazine’s 179-year history, Scientific American has done it again, throwing its support behind Harris’ candidacy.
