Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday thanked Brittany Mahomes, best known as the wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, for “defending him” after her apparent online support for him set social media abuzz last month.

In a post on his social media site, Truth Social, the Republican presidential nominee said it was “nice” to see that “beautiful” Brittany Mahomes “wants to save” the United States “from DOOM.”

“What a great couple,” Trump said of the Mahomeses. “See you both at the Super Bowl!”

The statement is sure to raise eyebrows among Taylor Swift fans given the pop icon’s close relationship with the Mahomeses since dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The Mahomeses were seen at Swift’s Rhode Island mansion last month along with Swift, Kelce and Hollywood power couple Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.

Brittany Mahomes created a stir online last month when her Instagram account liked (and later unliked) a Trump post outlining his 2024 platform. Seemingly in response to backlash to her Instagram activity, Mahomes condemned haters: “There’s no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well.” She seemed to double down by liking a pro-Trump comment on one of her posts.

Mahomes’ apparent support for Trump is in stark contrast to Swift’s past political leanings. The “Fortnight” singer endorsed the Joe Biden and Kamala Harris ticket in 2020. Democrats and some members of Swift’s massive fan base have been hoping she will publicly support Harris for president this year. (There was speculation that Swift or Beyoncé would appear at the Democratic National Convention last month, but those rumors were false.)

But Mahomes doesn’t seem too worried about the possibility of any bad blood with Swift over their apparent political differences. She shared a post last week that read: “Contrary to the tone of the world today … You can disagree with someone, and still love them. You can have differing views, and still be kind.”
